PERSONALITY: Kanaya Maryam is the mom friend of her group, the friend who is there when you need a listening ear or just someone to care. She is the one to point out and dissuade her friends from foolish courses of action, and meddle whether they like it or not. This almost if not always guaranteed to happen if Kanaya sees that someone is dangerous. This was seen multiple times over the story, with the best examples of this behavior being seen in her interactions with Rose and Vriska. This is most visible with her early interactions with Rose, as when Kanaya saw Rose blow up the gate to Rose’s next level, she starts meddling right then and there.
Kanaya has a tendency to put her friends before herself, and often meddles and fusses over them. This was especially prominent during her moirailship with Vriska, and one of the many factors that led to their breakup. Being a worrywart when it comes to them is another source of her urge to meddle. Her meddling and fussing have her known as the village bicycle for auspistism, which is one of the more stressful and less emotionally fulfilling of quadrants, where one troll acts as a mediator between two other trolls. Kanaya is the mediator usually, but her only officialish auspistism between Vriska and Tavros, she was unable to properly control. This was due to Kanaya letting herself get worked up over her feelings for Vriska, and letting them cloud her view of the situation. Kanaya also felt compelled to auspisticize between two other pairs pre-retcon, Karkat & Gamzee and Karkat & Dave.
Kanaya is primarily motivated by the desire to protect those she cares about. As one of the most sane and reasonable trolls, you would not expect the sheer amount of viciousness you get when you mess with her crew. Kanaya is willing to resort to bloodshed and other less savory options, regardless of how she feels about them, for the sake of the greater good. Examples of this are the time she cut Tavros’ legs off so Equius could replace them with robot legs, cutting open her freshly dead lusus (parent equivalent) to get the Matriorb, and bisecting Eridan who had become a danger to everyone else.
Kanaya is generally calm, polite, elegant, and modest, but do not be fooled into thinking that she is above tomfoolery and shenanigans, such as when she tried tasting her dead lusus’ blood out of curiosity that was brought on by her rainbow drinker novels and having a pun war with Rose in the third walkaround. While she is the most mature of the trolls, Kanaya still has her dorky moments, such as gushing over her trashy rainbow drinker romance novels. Kanaya is generally able to keep a cool head in stressful situations, unless they become emotionally distressing to her, for example, there was the time when she saw Vriska kissing Tavros. Her anger quickly gives way to tears, a somewhat rare sight.
Kanaya’s speech patterns tend and is rather loquacious in vocabulary, except when she is unsettled or otherwise distressed, in which case she is prone to rambling. It is very rare to hear Kanaya curse, but in the aforementioned distressed or unsettled state is when you are most likely to hear it. Kanaya is rather stoic and almost unflappable, so finding her in any of these states should set off alarm bells. Sarcasm is a tool in her linguistic abilities that Kanaya was confused with at first, but eventually picked up from the humans, mostly from Rose.
Kanaya is a talented seamstress among her many artistic talents. Sewing is her jam, among her other artistic hobbies such as topiary and gardening. Kanaya is a rarity among the trolls in that most do not care about fashion in the slightest, and tend to stick to dark colors such as black. Kanaya on the other hand, loves bright colors and while black is still visible, wears much more color on herself. Even her hive is brightly colored in general. A love of sunlight is practically unheard of on Altertnia due to the sun’s rays being rather deadly to most trolls. Due to being a jade blood, Kanaya is resistant to this, and could freely be in the sunlight whenever she wished.
ABILITIES: Her fetch modus is the Chastity Modus, where she needs to find keys to unlock her items with. The keys are predestined to show up, so she will not be able to just pull her items whenever she needs to, just when she is supposed to.
Her strife specibus is makeupkind, which is basically a tube of lipstick that turns into a chainsaw instantly. It is better not to question it.
Being a Rainbow drinker means that besides the whole blood drinking craving, that Kanaya can basically act as a lightbulb, as she emits a white glow from her skin at all times unless she ‘turns it off’ so to speak. Superhuman-or I guess Supertroll- speed is another result of becoming a Rainbow Drinker.
Kanaya is a talented tailor, which should be a help around the base due to lack of extra clothes.
Talented at Gardening, so she will be tending to them most likely.
As a Rainbow Drinker, Kanaya can take a fair amount of beating before being in danger of death. Not that it is too much as a problem, as well, if a hole in your abdomen is not going to stop you, then not much else will.
In terms of fighting ability, Kanaya is fast and deadly, using her chainsaw to quickly kill opponents in one fell swoop. Mostly due to the fact that things tend to die quickly if they’ve been bisected. Even after being a Rainbow drinker for just a short amount of time, Kanaya managed to completely diffuse the three way showdown that was about to happen between a sober Gamzee, god tier Vriska, and Eridan. By diffuse, I mean punch Vriska in the face, kick Gamzee in the crotch and off the ledge, and then promptly chainsaw Eridan in half, all in rapid succession.

Note: Kanaya had the Matriorb with her at the time she was taken, but due to nobody wanting a Mothergrub around to start popping out new trolls, it will be missing upon arrival.
MEMORY ALTERATION: Kanaya just remembers entering the new universe and then suddenly water everywhere.

Kanaya trudged her way through the foliage of Floater Island, pushing against the whipping winds of the hurricane raging around her. She was soaked from the rain that battered against her like bullets. But that was all minor in comparison to the growing dread in her bloodpusher.
“Rose?! Karkat?! Dave?! Is anyone present?!”

She knew that the others were perfectly capable of surviving this, but it still pained her to stop searching for now. The darkness of the cave was illuminated by the glow of Kanaya’s skin as the Rainbow drinker sat there, tending to the spattering of jade colored cuts and bruises from projectiles that she got clipped or hit by.
